My sister’s baby shower went great but I was upset from the beginning , and get this, about the cake. I am not bashing Dibartolo’s because I am sure this doesn’t happen often.
The last cake experience I had there was great (we ordered my son’s first birthday cake there).
But…..they have a great picture on their website of a cake in the shape of a baby carriage, under birthday cakes, and it is the only cake in the shape of a baby carriage on the website. I was going to order the cake over the phone, but I decided to go in the bakery to make sure I got the right cake.
So, on Tuesday I came in the store and spoke to the salesperson. She did not have a picture of the cake in their books becuase she said they didn’t show that one anymore (why? I have no idea). But I explained it was the round baby carriage cake pictured on their website and she said she knew exactly which one I was talking about.
I figured there was only one cake with that description, how could she go wrong. So, she said she knew exactly which one it was and that I could still order it, so I ordered it. The baby carriage cake, just like the one on the internet.
This is a picture of the baby carriage cake on their website:
(2nd cake in the 2nd row)
It is completely adorable and all I did for the past couple weeks was tell my sister how great this cake was going to be. When I went to pick up the cake, I was completley let down. I was shocked and didn’t know what to say. This was the one I received:
Still cute, but nothing like the other one pictured on their website.
I didn’t know what to say when I saw the cake. Part of me was completely let down, part of me thought well maybe it was my fault for not seeing a picture of what the lady at the store was talking about.
She assured me that she knew what cake I was talking about, and I figured, there was only one baby carriage cake pictured, how could she go wrong, and it is their website, she should know what cakes are on their website.
Wimpy me said nothing, paid for the wrong cake and left the store.
What could they have done? I needed it in a couple hours anyway.
I stewed and brewed the entire way to my sister’s house (I went there directly from the bakery). I was so excited to receive this beautiful cake and this was not the right cake. It was cute, but nothing like the one on their website.
Moral of the story: Open your mouth. I should have spoken up. But they should have checked their own website and made me the correct cake, especially for the price I paid.
Anyway, I guess when it comes down to it, be baby shower still went off beautifully. And my sister had a great time. So in the scheme of things the cake really didn’t matter. But I know I won’t be going to DiBartolo’s again.
