We had the Super Bowl and Super Tuesday so why not Super Friday (and just add the weekend days in their for an extra bonus)!
The weekend is a comin’ and with Valentine’s Day on the horizon and the Chinese New Year, there are some great family events to take advantage of.
1. Let’s start with a great fun free (two great words) thing to do for Valentine’s Day! The Lakeshore Learning Store, which hosts free crafts for kids every Saturday, will be hosting a special Valentine craft to kids on Saturday February 9th. So prepare your kids for all those valentines they will be receiving by making a Valentine’s Day tote with the staff from the Lakeshore Learning Store. Visit their website for locations. The crafts are recommended for kids 3 and up and run from 11:00 to 3:00 at every store location!
2.Love is in the air and it isn’t just for the human race! Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Philadelphia Zoo by giving a special salute to all those animal couples around the zoo. They’ll provide you with clues, a map, and prizes. This is a great scavenger hunt for families. Just 5$ per person!!! For ages 3 and up. Reservations are required!(And I think Saturday is supposed to be relatively nice)
3.Celebrate with Chinese New Year with the Discovery Museum Saturday, February 9th! Wear your finest red as you bring in the year of the rat with family-friendly fireworks, and tons of fun as you learn calligraphy and search the museum for lucky red packets.
4.Don’t forget! Sunday February 10th is Kids Day at Car show, kids 12 and under are free. The first 500 visitors to the Kidz Zone will receive a free coloring book. The Kidz Zone will be loaded with fun as The Please Touch Museum and Kid-Fit will be on hand to host a variety of activities such as draw a dream car, license plate rubbing, wind up toy races and tattoos. Not bad! Fun for kids and dad!!!
5. I can’t believe I forgot to mention this, but every Sunday admission at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is on a pay what you wish basis all day long. They also hold special activities to take advantage of. This Sunday is the last Sunday to visit the museum and drop in and draw. Families can draw together, doodling or creating masterpieces. Whatever you do watch as your kids are inspired by the art surrounding them. If you come early enough, from 10:15 to 11:00 you can also join the Early Bird Read and Look group. The parent/child book and craft class is exploring the book The Dot. They will be reading and doing crafts. This is recommended for ages 3-5, but I believe space is limited because they noted it was a first come first serve basis. Early bird gets the worm. So visit the museum, draw and read for free!!
Just for for the parents bonus #6
Valentine’s Day is coming up next week and maybe you are looking for something to do without the kids? The Pop Shop in Collingswood is featuring it’s Valentine’s Sweetheart Dance featuring live music performed by Full Blown Cherry and special fixed $35 dinner for two! Sounds super cute!
Is there anything you’d like to add, or events you’d like to advertise, just drop me a note and let me know what you have coming up or where you’d like to go!!!
